Mangu con Tres Golpes

La Bandera

Sancocho
Mangú con los Tres Golpes is a popular breakfast dish in the Dominican Republic, made from mashed green plantains, and fried onions. Tres golpes literally means “three hits” because the dish is accompanied by fried eggs, fried Dominican cheese and fried Dominican salami.
“La Bandera” the Dominican flag. This dish is considered the national dish of the Dominican Republic. White rice, red beans, and stew chicken. It could be chicken or beef; either way is a great tasty traditional Dominican lunch. Usually accompanied by some salad and “aguacate” (avocado), “tostones” (fried green plantains) and/or “maduros” (fried sweet plantains).
Sancocho is a beloved dish in the Caribbean. What you see is a hearty soup made out of proteins and vegetables. Vegetables such as, plantain, yams, yucca, corn, in between others. Typically made out of 7 types of meats. Whether it’s made with three or seven types of meat, it is simply delicious for the taste buds; a must try. I cook sancocho typically when it rains, or when having big celebrations. I personally love adding hen for the protein.

The flag of the Dominican Republic features a tricolor design. The blue on the flag stands for liberty, the white for salvation, and the red for the blood of the heroes. The red central emblem is a shield with the national motto “Dios, Patria, y Libertad” (God, fatherland, and liberty).
