Dominican Stew Beans/Habichuelas Guisada/Pinto Beans

Ingredients
  

  • 4 tbsp vegetable oil or olive oil- Dominican beans are typically cooked with vegetable oil, but I prefer olive oil.
  • 1/2 red onion
  • 1/2 green pepper
  • 4 minced garlic
  • 3 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tsp Adobo seasoning
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch pepper
  • 1 tsp sazon ranchero liquido
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper- optional
  • 1 pack Sazón con azafran
  • 1 large can of beans- I use pinto beans
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tsp ground or whole Dominican oregano- you can use any dried oregano you have available.
  • cilantro- add as much cilantro you desire for garnish and flavor.

Notes

Optional Ingredients:
Cumin, chicken cube bouillon, celery, kabocha squash, green plantains, and fresh recao (culantro).
