Dominican Stew Beans is one of the main side dishes from the Dominican Republic. It is often served with arroz blanco (white rice), pollo guisado (stew chicken and carne guisada (stew beef). When serving the beans on a plate with white rice and one of these stew meats choices, it creates “mi bandera” translation (my flag), which culinary colors represents and reflects the country’s history and heritage

Dominican Stew Beans/Habichuelas Guisada/Pinto Beans
Ingredients
- 4 tbsp vegetable oil or olive oil- Dominican beans are typically cooked with vegetable oil, but I prefer olive oil.
- 1/2 red onion
- 1/2 green pepper
- 4 minced garlic
- 3 tbsp tomato paste
- 2 tsp Adobo seasoning
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 pinch pepper
- 1 tsp sazon ranchero liquido
- 1 pinch cayenne pepper- optional
- 1 pack Sazón con azafran
- 1 large can of beans- I use pinto beans
- 2 cups water
- 2 tsp ground or whole Dominican oregano- you can use any dried oregano you have available.
- cilantro- add as much cilantro you desire for garnish and flavor.
